Thank you for attending the Transportation Border Summit!

On behalf of the FBC staff and Board of Directors, thanks to all of who attended the 2023 Transportation Border Summit in Washington, DC last month. It was great to be in the room with so many familiar faces and so many dedicated border specialists. We believe that the insights shared and the connections made will greatly benefit our attendees and we are excited to see the positive impact that it will have on our industry. Take a look at the event photos here. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletters, stay connected on social media, and ensure that your membership is up to date, in order to keep up with other upcoming events and webinars. Special thank you to Nelson Mullins for hosting the Summit and the reception, and for our numerous sponsors that made this event possible.

Summit Takeaways

On October 16, 17, and 18, 2023, FBC brought together more than 130 U.S. and Canada government and business leaders (including 33 expert speakers) for a frank discussion on core concerns and future plans for the bilateral relationship. Senior leadership from customs, homeland security, and transportation described their hopes for more efficient movement of people and goods supported by investments in technology and infrastructure, as well as the challenges of geopolitical tensions and malicious actors. At the operations level, we heard about plans to improve trusted travel and trade programs, and new technologies to make supply chains more ethical, greener, and more efficient. Problem solvers from industry and government explored ways to mitigate risk in electronic commerce, improve industry-government information sharing, build climate resilience, and reduce regulatory mismatches between our two countries. And finally, we heard about the importance of FBC’s bilateral summits and working groups to advance regional security, binational cooperation, supply chain efficiency and passenger access. During a time when our formal U.S.-Canada institutions are in transition, FBC is essential to maintaining momentum and bridging the gaps. Moving into 2024, Future Borders Coalition will be hosting a global preclearance summit, hybrid meetings on passenger accessibility, digital aviation platforms, and green trade corridors, as well as web events on e-commerce, preparation for World Cup 2026, and the USMCSA trinational review.

Québec-U.S. Southeast Aluminum Supply Chain Symposium

FBC presented an expert symposium and reception in Nashville last month at the Aluminum USA show, in partnership with the Québec Office in Atlanta. The Québec-US aluminum supply chain harnesses Québec's abundant hydroelectric power and the expertise of U.S. entrepreneurs to drive the production of high-quality aluminum while mitigating environmental impact, including through the use of cutting-edge recycling technologies. Thanks to our expert panelists: Joe Quinn, Center for Strategic Industrial Materials; Laura Chambers, Alcoa; Francois Racine, AluQuebec; Gianmatteo C. Martinelli, Novelis; site sponsor Gresham Smith; and participants who joined us in person and remotely.
